For a unique and fine Bavarian experience, enjoy European specialties in an historic 350-year-old building. The popular Old Bauernhaus Restaurant was built in Germany in 1640, dismantled and shipped to Canada in 1987, and then reconstructed in Kimberley. Feast on vast platters of schnitzel and other delights from the Bauernhaus' excellent kitchen, surrounded by history. The restaurant is closed on some days during the week so phone ahead to check and make a reservation. The Bauernhaus is located just outside of the town centre.

Finer Food

A warm décor and friendly service can be found at the Village Bistro, which offers a diverse and fine menu selection including Thai, Indian and French entrees, as well as posh salads, local meats and other favourites. As with the Bauernhaus, the Village Bistro serves dinner only and is typically open on the day the Bauernhaus isn't, so best to check in advance by popping in (it is located just near the Platzl).

Unique Dining Experiences in Kimberley

Bored of the usual? For a truly unique Canadian winter experience, Spirit Trail Adventures offers dinner in an ice igloo near the owners' lodge home and B&B, located approximately 20-minutes' drive from town. The evening starts off with winter activities including snowshoeing and a campfire, and finishes with a three-course salmon meal inside the large igloo.

During the summer months, visit Nina's Hillside Garden and Tea House (440 Spokane Street) for soup-and-sandwich-style lunches or coffee and tea in her outdoor garden. Climb the hillside path and stairs to reach the picnic tables – Nina's kitted out her gardens with miniature villages, bountiful flowers, carvings and waterfalls. Enjoy the beautiful view over a simple lunch or warm beverage.

Practical Dining Info

Many restaurants and cafés also showcase local artwork in their establishments, some cafés in town even feature music nights. The Platzl's town-hub Bean Tree Cafe offers a refreshing selection of artwork and photography for purchase. Other dining spots can be found in the Marysville neighbourhood, including the delightful Buddha Belly Deli on 304th St. Reservations for all dinner places are recommended, especially in the high seasons of July-August and December-January.
