Cross-Country Skiing
Cross-Country skiing (Dave Heath photo)
Cross-country skiers around Kimberley Alpine Resort have been using old mining exploration trails on the southern shoulder of North Star Mountain for decades.
Kimberley Nordic Club
Today, Kimberley Nordic Club's network of trails is comprised of 30km/19mi of machine-groomed double track with a centre skating lane, and 5km/3mi of single track. The longest loop is a vigorous 6km/3.7mi long. A 3km/2mi loop is lit for night skiing.
K1 & K2 Trails
The K1 and K2 trails, skied consecutively, offer some great terrain and other rewards. K1 climbs about 60m/200ft over a distance of 1.5km/1mi. K2 then climbs a little more, delivering fabulous views of Kimberley and the Rocky Mountain Trench before descending through long, sweeping turns back to the start of the trail system.

Other Cross-Country Venues
There's no doubt that the Nordic Club offers the best groomed trails in the area, but there are other options.
Kimberley Nature Park is a 800ha/1,980ac municipal park that, although lacking groomed trails, is used extensively for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. It has special appeal for dog owners, since canines are not welcome at the Nordic Club.
More trails can be found at Lois Creek, north of downtown Kimberley in the old townsite area. This area does get groomed occasionally, but not on any regular basis.
Equipment & Rentals
Both classic and skate equipment can be found at the resort and in town.
