Skiing & Snowboarding

Before it was Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, the slopes below the peaks of the Dogtooth Range were part of a heli-ski tenure.
That says a lot about the snowscape here. Lift-serviced since 2000, this big mountain resort attracts the purist hardcore skier and snowboarder. People planning a heli- or cat-skiing vacation in the Golden area still use Kicking Horse as a warm-up.
Kicking Horse Mountain Terrain
The advanced terrain at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is steeper and more aggressive than most. There's an abundance of powder, lots of technical runs, and terrific tree riding. It's big, really big! With 129 runs, there is something for everyone, with gentle beginner slopes, open bowls, tight chutes and extreme steeps.
Most of the beginner terrain is in the lower part of the mountain and serviced by the Magic Carpet Pony Express and the Catamount quad chair, but there are beginner-rated runs at all elevations.

"It's a Ten" is a full 10km/6mi-long sweeping run that goes all the way from the top of the mountain to the bottom. Crystal Bowl has a number of great beginner and intermediate runs.
For advanced skiers and boarders, there are four separate bowls fed by 85 black diamond chutes that fan out across the mountain. For fresh tracks in the steep and deep, try the Super Bowl – 15 advanced and expert chutes in the high alpine.
Guides and Tour
Accommodating all skill levels, a guide from the Big Mountain Centre can show skiers and snowboarders how to read the terrain, and get the most out of a Kicking Horse experience. Mountain tours are scheduled twice a day, at 10am and 12:30pm – and they're free!
Equipment Rentals
Everything from a basic package to high-performance equipment can be rented from Canyon Creek Outfitters and Selkirk Sports.
