Skiing & Snowboarding

Downhill skiing and snowboarding are major winter activities in Kamloops since the development of Sun Peaks Resort.
Located about 45 minutes from downtown Kamloops, Sun Peaks is a year-round destination with a range of outdoor recreation opportunities, including snowboarding, downhill and cross-country skiing in winter, and in summer, hiking and mountain biking.
However, Sun Peaks is not the only winter fun destination in Kamloops: Harper Mountain (a local favourite) features uncrowded family-friendly slopes, while, further north, Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing offers exciting heli-skiing and boarding.
Skiing at Sun Peaks
At Sun Peaks Resort, ski or snowboard Tod Mountain's open bowls, Sundance Mountain's groomed cruisers, or Mount Morrisey's glades. The longest run stretches 8km/5mi from the top of Tod Mountain to the resort village. In the past, the Austrian National Ski Team has trained at Sun Peaks prior to World Cup season.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, winter at Sun Peaks offers excellent cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding, and ice skating opportunities. Summer is no time to slow down either, as there is lots of hiking, mountain biking, and golfing to pursue.
The Tyrolean/European-styled village at Sun Peaks Resort features ski-in and ski-out accommodations and a range of restaurant options from bistros and pubs to fine dining, boutiques and shops.
Harper Mountain
Harper Mountain is one of the area's great family-friendly ski and snowboard secrets. Approximately 16km/10mi northeast of Kamloops, Harper Mountain has good terrain for downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and snow-tubing. Night skiing is also an option.
Mike Wiegele Heli Village
For an ultimate deep-powder rush, try heli-skiing and boarding at Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing, which attracts adrenaline-junkies from all over North America, Europe, Australia, and South America. Located 214km/132mi north of Kamloops along Highway 5 near Blue River, the resort's lodge sits at an elevation of 690m/2,240ft.
