Dining
Dining options are limited on Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), but visitors have some good choices.
Note that some restaurants may be closed or reduce hours in the winter months. Also, island businesses usually close early so plan dinner earlier rather than later and many are also closed on Sundays. Finally, some establishments run on island time, and might be closed any time of the year with no explanation.
Bakeries
An island favourite is the Trout House Bakery & Restaurant, a quaint and colourful restaurant on the north coast of Graham Island, along North Beach, about 10 minutes east of Masset, in the community of Tow Hill. During the day, it offers sweet and savoury treats, drinks and small meals, while the evening menu includes fresh halibut and organic foods. In the small community of Tlell, halfway between Masset and the village of Queen Charlotte, the Rising Tide Bakery on Highway 16 is popular for its coffee, fresh bread and baked goods.

Coffeeshops and Delis
A fabulous place to get a hot drink further south on Graham Island is Jags Beanstalk Coffee Shop in Skidegate on Highway 16. The front deck of the shop, which is also a gardening store, is covered so tourists can enjoy views of the ocean, sheltered from the weather. It's not uncommon to see whales from this perch, especially during April and May.
A 10-minute drive south along Highway 16, still on Graham Island, a popular coffee house in the village of Queen Charlotte is Queen B's Cafe. Its deck has a great view of the local dock and water, while the colourful inside is casual, friendly and full of art.
Across the street from Queen B's is the Purple Onion Deli, a popular lunch spot that offers soups, burgers and sandwiches, and brunch on Sundays. The deli packs picnic lunches on request.
Farmers Markets
In the summer, Graham Island hosts three farmers markets in different locations including the village of Queen Charlotte, Tlell and the community of Tow Hill, about a 10-minute drive east of Masset on the north coast.
Check with the Queen Charlotte Visitor Centre or the Sandspit Visitor Centre for more information about dining options in the area.
