Situated on Stuart Lake, one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in British Columbia, Fort St. James offers limitless possibilities for fun water activities.
Fishing is one of the most popular outdoor activities, with hundreds of lakes teeming with rainbow trout, char, burbot and lake trout. Anglers can also test their skills in the annual Stuart Lake Fishing Derby, held each July.
Seasonal Activities
In the summer, sunbathing followed by cooling off with a dip in Stuart Lake is one of the simplest ways to spend a day. Canoeing and kayaking are great ways to view the town and surrounding area from a distance. Jet-skis or motorboats with water-skis/wakeboards are other popular toys for zipping around the lake. In winter, try snow kiting – it involves a wakeboard/snowboard, a surfing kite, and some courage.
