Powdery white snow is abundant in Fort Nelson's wild outdoors, and ensures excellent conditions for various winter activities.
Keep an eye out for animal tracks in the snow while cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. Exercise in the clean northern air while exploring the vast wilderness. Snowmobiling is also an option. Be sure to bring equipment, as rentals are not available.
Cross-Country Skiing
Warm up along the Demonstration Forest Trails close to Fort Nelson, at the west end of Mountainview Drive. These groomed trails are track set for classic skiing, and they loop through mixed coniferous and deciduous forests. Moonlit cross-country skiing, held on the Saturday nearest to the full moon, adds a dreamy northern atmosphere to the sport. Ski in excellent snow conditions on half an hour to two hour trails that range in length from 2.3km/1.4mi to 8.1km/5mi.
