To truly understand British Columbia's rich and diverse history, don't miss the museums in Fort Langley, a colourful, historic village nestled on the banks of the Fraser River.
In 1858, the emerging Western Canadian province was declared a crown colony of Great Britain at the stockade-enclosed fort. The fort, now a National Historic Site complete with costumed interpreters, and the nearby CN Station (a heritage train station) are key Fort Langley historic sites. Local museums offer additional cultural insights.
BC Farm Machinery & Agricultural Museum
The BC Farm Machinery & Agricultural Museum (9131 King St) celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2008. View collections of tractors and carriages, a Model T Ford, vintage logging equipment, restored farmhouse furnishings, a working sawmill and steam engine. The museum is open from April to October.

Langley Centennial Museum
Multicultural diversity is the calling card of the Langley Centennial Museum (9135 King St), right next door to the BC Farm Machinery & Agricultural Museum. Rotating exhibits have recently included the likes of First Nations stone sculptures, watercolour paintings by local art instructor Barbara Boldt, Asian lanterns, and 1960s clothing. Birthplace of BC Gallery
Located in a charming heritage home, the Birthplace of BC Gallery (9054 Glover Rd) showcases and sells the work of talented local artists, many of whom focus on Langley and the surrounding region. Admire the acrylic landscape paintings of Al Colton (dubbed Langley's "Dean of Art"), the graphite pencil drawings of Brenda Hill, and the award-winning photos of Alan Wylie.
