Fernie Alpine Resort receives an average snowfall of 11m/36ft each year, which attracts skiers and snowboarders from all over the world.
Additionally, the resort has 14km/9mi of groomed trails for cross-country skiers. A full selection of ski and snowboard rental equipment is available.
Skiing and Snowboarding Terrain
Fernie Alpine Resort ranks number six on Outside magazine's list of North America's 15 best ski resorts. Set against the rocky crest of Lizard Range, the resort boasts 1,082m/3,550ft of vertical and 142 runs spread over approximately 1,013ha/2,503ac. The breakdown of ski runs is 30 per cent beginner, 40 per cent intermediate, and 30 per cent advanced. A good general rule is higher runs are more challenging.
Advanced skiers and snowboarders will find ample steeps with plenty of black diamond and double black diamond runs. Thrill seekers should make their way up to Snake Ridge. Falling Star is a 5km/3mi long intermediate run with cruising slopes and lots of powder.
Food and Accommodations
The resort village combines traditional mountain charm with modern facilities. Food services and ski-in/ski-out accommodations have been significantly expanded in recent years. The Lost Boys Café, at the top of the Timber Bowl Express Chair, is a great place to take a break, warm up, and enjoy lunch with a view. However, the Griz Bar, a popular après-ski hangout since 1962, is still the cornerstone of the village, offering good company and live music.
