The City of Williams Lake is 540km/348mi north of Vancouver and 238km/148mi south of Prince George and is easily accessed by road and air.
Car Travel The city is strategically located at the junction of two highways: Highway 20 leading west to Bella Coola and the BC Ferries terminal, and Highway 97 leading north to Prince George and on to Alaska, or south to Kamloops or Vancouver. This makes the city a convenient stopping point for those traveling on the Coast Cariboo or the Lakes and Trails Circle Route tours. A car is really the best way to get around Williams Lake as many of the activities that can be enjoyed in the area are quite spread out. Vehicles must be equipped with winter tires for the snow season, although most roads in town are paved. There are also two, 24-hour gas and service stations in town. National Car and Truck Rental has a desk in the airport terminal building as well as a location in the city. Ron Ridley Rentals also rents cars in Williams Lake. Air Travel The Williams Lake Airport is located approximately 14km/8.5mi north of Williams Lake. Both Pacific Coastal Airlines and Central Mountain Air have numerous daily scheduled flights between Williams Lake and Vancouver. Additionally, several fixed wing and helicopter charter services are available from the airport.
Public Transportation Greyhound Bus Canada coaches arrive and depart Williams Lake three times a day, connecting to the major communities of Vancouver, Kamloops, and Prince George. The city operates a community bus to major area destinations and residential areas on a fixed route and schedule, passing most bus stops every 30 to 90 minutes. A wheelchair-accessible bus (the "handyDART"), is also available but has to be booked. Town Taxi provides door to door service in Williams Lakes, and rents vans and drivers to groups. Maps Good driving maps for the city and region are available at the Williams Lake Tourism Discovery Centre/Visitor Centre located at the south end of town on Highway 97 or from the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Association.
