Vancouver Island Rail Travel

Comfy seats, big picture windows and food service make train travel one of the most comfortable and relaxing ways to explore southeastern Vancouver Island. Rail lines run through some of the region's most beautiful landscapes - sit back, relax and enjoy!

Rail Services

VIA Rail

VIA Rail is Canada's national passenger rail service. It operates "The Malahat", a sightseeing rail tour between Victoria and Courtenay via Duncan, Chemainus, Nanaimo, Parksville and Qualicum Beach. An enormously scenic excursion that features breathtaking views of the Strait of Georgia and the Coast Mountain Range, The Malahat can be used simply as a means of getting to Victoria from central Vancouver Island or as a scenic day-trip from Victoria into the central region and back again. Unlimited stopover privileges allow visitors to spend time exploring. The Malahat offers one departure per day in each direction. The trip between Victoria and Courtenay takes 4 1/2 hours.
