This route, part of VIA Rail's trans-Canadian rail network, is renowned for lofty mountain peaks, intriguing totem poles and wildlife such as bears, moose, elk, deer, wolves, coyotes and eagles. Rail Services The Skeena The Skeena is a two-day, 1,160-kilometre (725-mile) journey that traverses Northern BC, from Prince Rupert on the Pacific coast to Jasper National Park in the Alberta Rockies. This train journey is one of BC's most spectacular undiscovered treasures. In a west-to-east direction, the train travels through the Coast Mountains past waterfalls, rivers and totem poles and into the lakes district of the Interior Plateau before heading into the Rockies and into Jasper. This journey is renowned for its wildlife sightings. VIA Rail allows Skeena passengers to disembark at any point along the route, even where there is no scheduled stop - simply request a "special stop" in advance. This is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts who want to explore the Northern BC wilderness. In Jasper, passengers can connect with VIA Rail's western transcontinental train, fondly referred to as "The Canadian". This train provides services between Vancouver and Toronto with stops in Kamloops, Jasper, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Sudbury.
