The Sea To Sky Highway, named one of the world's top five road trips by England's The Guardian newspaper, is your route to Whistler from Vancouver. Also known as Highway 99, it begins at the US border and heads north through Vancouver and Whistler before veering northeast into the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region. The highway is well maintained throughout the year and boasts one scenic landmark after another, including the sparkling waters and wooded islands of Howe Sound, tumbling Shannon Falls and the rugged, snow-capped Coast Mountains.
Several free, municipal day lots are located just a couple of minutes' walk from the ski lifts and shops of Whistler Village and the Creekside neighborhood.
Car rental companies operate at airports, in many Vancouver locations, and in Whistler Village.
Travelling in Winter
Winter snow storms or icy conditions can cause temporary problems along the Sea To Sky Highway. Though it is promptly plowed and sanded, delays and even temporary closures are a possibility in winter. Please take this into account and remember that driving in winter conditions can be a challenge, even for experienced drivers.
