Driving Through Glacier National Park - Don Weixl
Driving Through Glacier National Park, Don Weixl photo
Revelstoke is one Kootenay Rockies community that is most definitely on the beaten track. The TransCanada Highway runs right through town, which makes for easy and very scenic road access from Calgary and Vancouver. Highway 23 links Revelstoke with destinations to the south, including Halcyon Hot Springs, the Arrow Lakes, Nelson, and Spokane, WA.

Car Travel

Exploring the national parks and getting to most destinations outside the city limits will require some kind of vehicle. Both car and bicycle rentals are available in Revelstoke.

Note that the Meadows in the Sky Parkway in Mount Revelstoke National Park is not suitable for vehicles towing trailers or large recreational vehicles.

Air Travel

Scheduled air service is through Kelowna (the closest at just two hours by car), Kamloops, the Canadian Rockies International Airport near Cranbrook, and Calgary International, via a number of airlines. Car rentals are available at those airports.

While Revelstoke does have a small airport, it is used primarily by private and charter aircraft.

Public Transportation

Greyhound operates four buses per day to destinations east and west only. Passengers can disembark at Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park, but need to make prior arrangements with Greyhound for pickup.

The City of Revelstoke, in conjunction with BC Transit, operates a bus service within the city. Limited taxi service is also available.

During the ski season, a free shuttle bus service to nearby Revelstoke Mountain Resort is offered from various pickup points in town, including the larger hotels.

Free maps of downtown Revelstoke and the Kootenay Rockies region are available at the Visitor Centre on Campbell Ave.
