Mission, which covers an area of 253sq km/98sq mi in the Fraser Valley, lies about 70km/44mi east of Vancouver. It's just a one-hour drive away. The easiest way to get to and around Mission is by vehicle.

Car Travel

When traveling from Vancouver to Mission, drivers can either take the Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) east, which leads directly into Mission, or the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). The Trans-Canada Highway goes through Abbotsford, and taking the Sumas exit (Exit 92) leads north on the Abbotsford-Mission Highway (Highway 11) to Mission. Mission is a 15-minute drive from the US border. The nearest border crossing is the Huntingdon-Sumas border crossing on Highway 11.

In Mission, car rentals are available at the Best Western Mission City Lodge (32281 Lougheed Hwy.). Cars can also be rented at numerous agencies in nearby Abbotsford. Due to Mission's mild coastal climate, driving is easy most of the year. Exercise caution if driving in snowy conditions during the winter.

Ferry Travel

Mission can be reached from the BC Ferries terminals at Horseshoe Bay (a one-hour drive east, mostly on the Trans-Canada Highway and the Lougheed Highway) and Tsawwassen (a drive of one hour and fifteen minutes via Highway 10, the Trans-Canada Highway, and the Abbotsford-Mission Highway).

Rail Travel

The West Coast Express offers five daily train trips from downtown Vancouver to Mission and vice versa on weekdays. The trip takes about an hour and 10 minutes. Stops in between include Port Moody, Coquitlam Central, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Meadows, and Port Haney. Train-bus service is available on weekends. Via Rail offers train service to the Mission Harbour train station.

Public Transportation

Mission's public transportation system is the ValleyMax Transportation System, which serves both Mission and Abbotsford in the Central Fraser Valley. Hours of operation vary by route. Greyhound offers regular bus service to Mission.

Air Travel

For international travelers, Mission is conveniently close to two major international airports. It's about a 30-minute drive from Abbotsford International Airport (YXX), and a one-hour drive from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Richmond. Rental cars and taxis are available at both airports.
