Fort St. John Transportation & Maps

Travel distances in between communities in Northern British Columbia can be quite long, so car travel is usually the best option. Fortunately, Fort St. John is the second largest city (the largest is White Horse, Yukon) along the Alaska Highway, and is therefore a hub of travel services and rentals. Fort St. John Airport offers daily flights to and from various locations in British Columbia and Alberta. Car rentals are available at the airport, and at several others operators throughout town. Greyhound bus also services Fort St. John. For visitors staying in and around downtown Fort St. John, restaurants, shops, and other amenities are within walking distance.

Car Travel

The main route to Fort St. John for visitors travelling south from British Columbia, north from the Yukon, and east from Alberta, is the world famous Alaska Highway. Travelers from Prince George can drive along the Hart Highway 97, connecting through Hudson's Hope on Highway 29 to the Alaska Highway. Off-the-beaten, there is a route connecting to Fort St. John from Grimshaw and Hines Creek, Alberta, via Highway 103. Car travel is of course the best way to enjoy any of the many scenic drives in Fort St. John. Car rentals are available at several locations throughout town.

Public Transportation

Greyhound Canada operates buses through Fort St. John, and provides easy travel to Prince George, Vancouver, and other BC communities both north and south along the Alaska Highway and Highway 29, and Alberta destinations, such as Calgary and Edmonton.

Air Travel

Fly to Fort St. John Airport with Air Canada or Central Mountain Air.  Air Canada has regularly scheduled flights to and from Vancouver.  Central Mountain Air connects directly to Prince George and Fort Nelson, and Edmonton and Calgary.  Swanberg Air flies small planes with service to Fort Nelson, Grande Prairie, and Calgary. Flights and helicopter tours can be chartered from the Fort St. John airport.
