Getting There
There are four ways - plane, ferry, bus or car - to access the thousands of lakes, rivers and magnificent stretch of Pacific Ocean coastline that make the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast an ideal destination for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, boating and camping.
Two commercial airports service the region, located in Williams Lake and Quesnel, both in the heart of Cariboo country. Numerous other smaller airports also service the region.
Catching a ferry is an ideal way to make the unforgettable journey up or down the coast along the Discovery Coast Passage. It departs from Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island and travels to Bella Coola. The route cruises through a dramatic archipelago of rainforest-draped islands and inlets, past snow-capped mountains and remote villages. All around, there is an astonishing abundance of wildlife, including orcas (killer whales), grey and humpback whales, dolphins and porpoises, sea lions, grizzly and black bears, elk and deer.
Other convenient travel options include bus services and car. The region's only north-south artery is Highway 97 which runs 430 km (267 mi) between Cache Creek and Prince George.
Getting Around
Getting around the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region by scheduled and chartered planes is simple, as it is by bus and car (which are driven on the right-hand side of the road). The region's only north-south artery is Highway 97 which runs 430 km (267 mi) between Cache Creek and Prince George. This well-maintained, two-laned, paved route is the Cariboo lifeline and all the region's major towns are located along it. Along the coast, people often travel by ferry; BC Ferries offers service to several remote coastal areas.
