Fernie Alpine Resort

If snowshoeing through deep drifts of snow is your idea of bliss, then head to Fernie Alpine Resort. Situated 1,000 m (3,280 ft) high in the Canadian Rockies of southeastern BC, Fernie is renowned for its prodigious amounts of powder, dependably sunny skies and enchanting scenery. The resort offers 10 km (6.2 mi) of groomed snowshoeing trails as well as magnificent backcountry for adventurous shoers. Take a guided tour to learn about the fascinating history of the mountain and the surrounding area. The resort is just minutes away from Fernie, an authentic mining town known for its warm hospitality, colourful past and turn-of-the-century architecture.

Fernie Alpine Resort is a 5-km (3-mi) drive from the city of Fernie.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

One of North America's fastest-growing winter sports, snowshoeing is a wonderful activity to pursue at Kicking Horse. Here you can experience the exhilaration of bracing, fresh air and a pristine, white world high in the Rocky Mountains. Get started on a 4-km (2.5-mi) snowshoe loop. Then take a guided tour of the spectacular area, warming up with a mug of steaming cocoa at the end of your journey. Rentals are available. Take note: Kicking Horse was the UK's Good Skiing and Snowboard Guide's Small Resort of the Year in both 2004 and 2005.

Kicking Horse is located 15 minutes north of Golden, BC.

Kimberley Alpine Resort

Kimberley Alpine Resort is an ideal location for snowshoeing. While the resort does not offer set trails, there are a number of excellent tours available for snowshoers of all levels. They include the Mountain Descent, where shoers ride the chair up in the late afternoon and enjoy a mountain-top snack before a memorable walk down along trails and through trees to the base area. During the Fondue Experience, shoers ride the chair up in the evening, take a brisk, mountaintop tour, then indulge in decadent chocolate fondue before riding down. On the Trickle Creek Tour, shoers traipse through the deep snow or trails around the Trickle Creek Golf Course.

Kimberley Alpine Resort is a 2-km (1.6-mi) drive from the city of Kimberley and just a 20-minute drive away from Cranbrook.

Panorama Mountain Village Resort

Panorama Mountain Village Resort welcomes snowshoers. Just strap on your snowshoes and head out on the scenic, 4-km (2.5 mi) trail (one way). As you step softly through nature, be on the lookout for animal tracks. Guided tours on the mountain are available. After an invigorating day snowshoeing, head to the village to soak weary bones in the hot pools. Please note that snowshoers and cross-country skiers do not share trails.

Panorama is located in the Toby Creek Valley, 20 minutes west of Invermere.

Red Mountain Resort

Those who find it exhilarating to step softly through nature will want to make tracks to Red Mountain. A 1-km (0.6-mi) snowshoe loop at the base of Red Mountain is an ideal route for beginners or those seeking some bracing fresh air. More ambitious shoers can head into the backcountry around Red Mountain and Rossland - discover a captivating landscape of snowy woods, climb to impressive peaks or just meditate as you shoe through glorious, unbroken snow.

Red Mountain Resort is a 5-minute drive from the town of Rossland.
