Snowshoeing has become a popular winter sport in the past few years. One of the reasons is because it's so easy to get started - just strap on a pair of snowshoes and go. Head out into the backcountry or pick more moderate trails. Wells-Barkerville is a popular area in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast region for locals and visitors to enjoy this growing sport.

Wells-Barkerville

There is a vast network of trails in the Wells-Barkerville area, many of which can be used by snowshoers. Indeed, a large section of the Cariboo Waggon Road can be snowshoed, with 22km (13.7 miles) running from Stanley, west of Wells, through to Barkerville Historic Town. In Barkerville, a former gold-rush boomtown, visitors can wander among the 125 restored heritage buildings. Barkerville's main street is plowed.

All trails are located off Highway 26, within a few minutes of Wells.
