Revelstoke Mountain Resort is BC’s newest winter resort (2008/09 will only be its second season) and it’s already a record-breaker.
The resort now boasts the longest lift-serviced vertical on the continent: an astounding 1,713 m (5,620 ft). Powder (a popular US-based ski magazine) called Revelstoke “North America’s New Big One”.
This is also the only resort in the world that offers lift, cat or heli-skiing/boarding from one village base.
Selkirk Mountain Snow
Revelstoke’s snowboarding area is located on Mount Mackenzie in the Selkirk Mountains. The Selkirks are known for impressive peaks and snowfalls that can measure 12–18 m (40–60 ft), which means lots of potential for powder days.
Revelstoke Snowboarding Terrain
The majority of Revelstoke’s runs and areas are rated blue or black, so intermediate and advanced riders have plenty of options.
“Snow Rodeo” is a classic groomed run: it starts black, ends blue and follows the natural fall-line from top to bottom. Thirteen gladed areas spread across the slopes are ideal for tree riding enthusiasts, and North Bowl is the place for chutes, cliff drops and powder stashes.
Beginners can weave down from mid-mountain on green-rated “The Last Spike” or learn to snowboard in the beginner area.
New Lodge and Flights to Revelstoke
Nelsen Lodge will be Revelstoke’s brand new base area for the 2008/09 season, and will include snowboarder services, the Revelstoke Guides Bureau, rentals, a café and a restaurant.
Starting December 8, 2008, there will be another way for visitors to reach the resort. Hawkair Aviation will be offering flights to the Revelstoke Airport from the Calgary International Airport.
Practical Points
Rental equipment is available at the resort and includes snowboards and boots.
Beginner, intermediate and advanced lessons are available through the Snow School. Cat and heli prep sessions and backcountry programs also available.
