Kootenay Rockies Skiing (Downhill)
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Dave Heath photo
The Kootenay Rockies region is dominated by amazing mountain ranges – the Monashees, Purcells, Selkirks, and Rockies – and incredible powder, with 12-18m/40-60ft of light, dry snow falling annually. This ideal combination of terrain and powder is serviced by more than half of British Columbia's major ski resorts.
Ski Canada magazine has awarded Kootenay Rockies’ resorts with “Best Powder" (Revelstoke Mountain Resort , Fernie Alpine Resort , Whitewater Ski Resort , Red Mountain Resort ; 2009), “Best Steeps” (Kicking Horse Mountain Resort , Red Mountain Resort ; 2007), and “Best Tree Skiing" (Red Mountain Resort , Whitewater Ski Resort ; 2007). Kootenay Rockies ski resorts feature uncrowded slopes, short lift lines, and a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. The quantity and proximity of resorts along the Kootenay Rockies' "Powder Highway" enables skiers to sample a variety of slopes during a single visit to the region.
