In winter, Silver Star Mountain Resort is all about sunshine and snow. Expect reliable skiing from late November through mid-April. Silver Star gets an average of 750cm/24.5ft of dry powder annually. These conditions have repeatedly won the resort "Best Powder" accolades from Ski Canada Magazine , which has also awarded Silver Star "Best Weather" honours. Diverse Terrain Ski forest glades, glide gentle slopes or attack deep powder and moguls. The 1240ha/3065ac of skiable terrain includes 115 marked downhill trails totalling 93km/58mi. The longest run is 8km/5mi and the maximum vertical is 760m/2500ft. Some 70 per cent of the runs are rated blue or green with select areas set aside for beginners. Extreme Skiing at Silver Star There's no shortage of black diamond action and 10% of runs are rated extreme, with double black diamond adventure in the steep and deep chutes of the Putnam Creek area, easily accessible from the Powder Gulch Express chair. Twin Ticket For even more variety, Silver Star Mountain Resort has teamed up with its sister property, Big White Ski Resort , for an inter-mountain day trip with shuttle service between resorts. Check at the Silver Start Village Visitor Centre for schedules. Uncrowded Feel With 10 downhill lifts, including the Six Pack Express, four quad chairs, a double chair, T-bar and three Magic Carpets, the mountain doesn't feel crowded and skiers spend their time on the slopes not in line-ups. Mid-week all winter and warm spring days, when downhillers have defected to Vernon golf courses, it feels like there's nobody else on the mountain. Night skiing is available Friday and Saturday through the end of March. Snowsport School Learn to ski or hone those skills with group lessons. Silver Star also offers programs for kids aged 4-12 along with special group sessions for ladies on Tuesdays and men on Wednesdays. Private coaching is tailored to the individual needs and goals of the skier or group and skiers who want to feel the thrill of running the gates can test their skills on Silver Star's dedicated race course. Silver Star Adaptive Snow Sports People with disabilities join the downhill action with the help of Silver Star Adaptive Snow Sports volunteers. Getting There Follow 48th Avenue to Silver Star Road 22km/13mi to the resort. Winter tires or chains are required on Silver Star Road from Tillicum Road to Silver Star Resort from October 1 to April 30. Driving through this area without the proper equipment, may result in a fine. Shuttle bus service is available from Vernon and from Kelowna International Airport .
