Bear Mountain Ski Hill is a 10-minute drive from Dawson Creek and was first developed in the early 1960s. It has since moved from its original location on the hill to a new site with better runs. Supported by the community and locally operated, the "hill" offers a great opportunity to be active outdoors while spending time in Dawson Creek.
Ski Runs and Amenities
Bear Mountain features eleven beginner and intermediate runs, which are accessed by one T-Bar, with a vertical drop of 107.9m/360ft from the top to the bottom. The runs are especially suited to skiers warming up for the season, beginners and families. Bear Mountain has excellent snow conditions in most winter months. There is a pub on site, where skiers can warm up and have a quick snack or a beverage, and parents can enjoy a hot chocolate or warm beverage while watching their kids spend time on the hill.
Check with the Visitor's Centre to find out about ski fees and rentals, as well as when the hill is in operation as this can vary year-to-year. Bear Mountain Ski Hill may open as late as mid-December, depending on snowfall.
To reach Bear Mountain from Highway #2, take the dangerous goods route to 17th street and turn left. From the Alaska Highway, take the dangerous goods route to 17th street and turn right.
For more advanced skiers, the largest ski hill in the region is Powder King Mountain Resort in the Pine Pass. Visitors planning a trip from Dawson Creek through Chetwynd to Mackenzie or Prince George may find this mountain to be a greater challenge.
