Some of the region falls within the world’s largest and most consistent snowbelt, resulting in an extended season that often lasts from November through May.

This is an ideal location for a heli-skiing vacation; skiers and boarders can count on deep but dry and light powder as well as glacier skiing and valley views, complemented by luxury lodges tucked high into the mountainside.

Heli-ski operators specialize in transporting clients to the magnificent 540,000-ha (1.3 million-ac) Wells Gray Provincial Park as well as the wilderness area close by 224,866-ha (555,656-ac) Mount Robson Provincial Park (part of UNESCO's designated Canadian Rocky Mountains World Heritage Site).

For information on heli-skiing operators in the area, visit the HeliCat Canada website.

Valemount

Hello, Rocky Mountains. Valemount is located in the Rocky Mountain Trench, where three mountain ranges meet – the Monashees, Cariboos and Rockies. Heli-ski options here are seemingly endless. The snow varies from deep powder to settled hard-pack. Soar down everything from glaciers to open snowfields to treed runs – choose from over 1,500 sq km (579 sq mi) of varied terrain. In addition to heli-skiing, operators in the area offer heli-snowshoe and flightseeing tours over Mount Robson (the highest peak in the Rocky Mountains) and the stunning Berg Lake area. FAT ski rentals are available. Valemount is located 320 km (200 mi) north of Kamloops via Highway 5.

Blue River

Blue River is set amid a large and consistent snowbelt, where snow accumulations of 9 m (30 ft) are normal. The area offers over 7,680 sq km (3,000 sq mi) of wilderness in the Cariboo and Monashee mountain ranges. Ski from glaciers to the valley floor while maneuvering drop-offs. The Cariboos offer steep verticals of up to 1,615 m (5,300 ft) while descents in the Monashees range from 914-1,829 m (3,000-6,000 ft) - all exhilarating. These high elevation changes enable skiers and riders to experience both glacier and tree skiing. Blue River is located 214 km (133 mi) north of Kamloops via Highway 5.
