You don't have to go to Alaska or the Yukon to experience dogsledding. Just a scant two hours north of Vancouver, the four-season resort community of Whistler offers memorable excursions.

Mush through the snow-covered forests of the Soo or Brandywine valleys on guided tours.

Sleds are pulled by a pack of Alaskan Racing Huskies — the same dogs used in the Iditarod race. Under ideal conditions, guides give you the opportunity to drive the sled and learn the commands. Or you can just sit back and relax.

It is not uncommon to encounter moose and other wildlife on these picturesque 2.5 hour tours. Guests are advised to dress in layers and bring gloves and goggles if they have them. A light snack is usually provided.
