Consistent snow conditions, abundant susnshine, and diverse terrain make the Kootenay Rockies regions an ideal location for dogsledding. The "Wilderness Classic Sled Dog Derby & Festival" is held annually in Elkford, and features both dogsledding and skijoring (a individual on skis is pulled by a dog).Dogsledding tour packages are offered at three great resorts in the Kootenay Rockies region: Fernie Alpine Resort, Kimberley Alpine Resort, and Panorama Mountain Village.
 Fernie Alpine Resort Fernie Alpine Resort offers a number dogsledding options. Sledders can ride individually or as passengers, on 45min to half day tours. Tour guides provide local history and knowledge of the Elk Valley - "Wildlife Capital of British Columbia" - and surrounding area. Kimberley Alpine Resort Kimberley Alpine Resort is a family-friendly resort that provides great dogsledding tours for all ages. Tours journey through the pristine backcountry of St. Mary River Valley, and varying from half-day to full-day rides. Panorama Mountain VillageAt Panorama Mountain Village, sit back and relax as experienced guides direct dogsled teams through scenic mountain wilderness, or learn to drive a team. Dogsledding options include half-day tours, or full-day dogsled/snowmobile combination tours.
