Delight in clean fresh mountain air, while striding peacefully along cross-country trails near Tumbler Ridge. The 10km/6.2mi Wolverine Nordic Trail System begins at the Tumbler Ridge Golf & Country Club, located at the end of Monkman Way. Backcountry skiing is also an option at Holzworth Meadows and Mount Babcock.

Wolverine Nordic Trail System

Groomed runs, maintained by the Wolverine Nordic and Mountain Society, loop through the golf course and into a forested area with excellent views of the Murray River Valley. Suited to all level of cross-country skiing experience and to both classic and skate skiing, trail loops include the relatively flat Fairway Loops, and the forested 4km/2.5mi-5km/3.1mi and Cabin Loops.  Take a break and have a chocolaty drink while warming up at the Lost Haven Cabin, located at the 6.7km/4.2mi mark.

Frozen Creeks

Another exciting cross-country skiing option for experienced skiers is exploring frozen creeks, like Flatbed Creek (via Lions Flatbed Campground), or Babcock Creek.  Before taking a trip along a frozen creek, check ice conditions and be aware of potential creek hazards.  Taking appropriate winter wear and layering is also important as weather and temperatures can often change.

Backcountry Skiing

Backcountry skiing is easy to access and presents an excellent challenge for experienced skiers.  Two areas recommended are Holzworth Meadows and Mount Babcock.  With a drier climate than other mountain areas, and frequent Chinook winds (warm dry winds that blow down the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains), it is worth checking out the snow conditions prior to hitting the alpine.

Stop by the Tumbler Visitor Centre for more information about cross-country ski trails and backcountry skiing locations.
