This ideal location gives you the best of both worlds: combine a guided tour into pristine alpine terrain with the splendid amenities of world-renowned Whistler, site of the alpine and Nordic venues for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Single-day cat skiing tours take place at Tricouni Mountain. While this area is just 20 km (12.4 mi) south of Whistler off Highway 99, it receives 40% more snow than the resort. This translates into blissful runs of untracked powder made all the more exhilarating by the panoramic vistas of Whistler Blackcomb to the north, Black Tusk to the east and Mount Fee to the northwest.
Some facts:
- The Tricouni cat-skiing area encompasses 1,740 ha (4,300 ac) of backcountry terrain spread over five peaks.
- Skiers and boarders descend an average of 490-600 m (1,600-2,000 ft) per run.
- Cypress Peak is home to high alpine runs with vertical drops that range from 460-1,160 m (1,500-3,800 ft).
- Expect superb tree skiing through both old- and second-growth forests, as well open faces, chutes, banks and plenty of jumping features for more daring skiers and riders.
All guides are certified instructors, fully qualified to help both novice and advanced powder skiers and riders improve their techniques. The learning process moves quickly, as only 12 to 14 clients have access to this untracked area during any one day.
