Circle routes are self-guided driving tours that enable visitors to check out multiple farms, artisans' workshops, fairs, markets, nurseries or other noteworthy sites within a day, or even a couple of hours. The Mission Circle Farm Tour includes close to 10 stops that showcase the best of what the district has to offer.

Local Farms

Looking for a taste of Mission's agricultural scene? Pre-book a tour at Spady Farms (33153 Smith Ave.) between May and September. The working farm is a fun experience for the whole family, as kids delight in viewing the pigs, chickens, llamas, and horses. Spady Farms is just a few minutes away from one of Mission's major historic sites, the Power House at Stave Falls.

Alternatively, visit the Mission City Farmers' Market and stock up on locally grown, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables. Vendors sell original jewellery, pottery, greeting cards, bath and beauty products, and much more, while local entertainers and musicians perform. Held in Lane Creek Park in downtown Mission, the Mission City Farmers' Market operates on Saturdays between May and September.

In business for half a century, the Sun Valley Trout Park (31395 Silverdale Ave.) is one of BC's oldest fish farms. Take a self-guided tour and check out the rainbow trout raised on site, or camp at the campground and do a little fishing.

Arts and Crafts

At the Jo Priestley Studio and Garden Gallery (33140 Richards Ave.), artist Jo Priestley sells her porcelain, stoneware, and raku creations. Beautiful glazes and iridescent hues mark the selection of pottery. Outside, explore the award-winning gardens with perennial flowers, a pond with a waterfall, and a view toward the local Benedictine monastery, Westminster Abbey. The studio is open from April to December.

The Country Cache Store at Cnoccarne Bed & Breakfast (11977 Stave Lake Rd.) sells soaps, honey, glass, and woodwork items by local artisans.

Wine and Beer

Wine and beer lovers also have something to toast on the Mission Circle Farm Tour. Visit the tasting room at Kermode Wild Berry Wines (8457 River Rd. South) to sample and purchase their palate-pleasing fruit wines. Some of the most popular fruit wines include Himalayan Blackberry Wine and Alpine Blueberry Wine.

The Mission Springs Brewing Company (7160 Oliver St. at Lougheed Hwy.) attracts microbrewery aficionados with its original line of beers. Stock up on Fat Guy Oatmeal Stout Ale or Olde Sailor's India Pale Ale at the on-site liquor store. Then head into the restaurant or pub, both adorned with vintage car memorabilia and historical photos, to chow down on pizzas and burgers.

For directions and further details about the Mission Circle Farm Tour,  head to the Visitor Centre (34033 Lougheed Hwy.) and pick up a brochure.
