The Thompson Okanagan gets more sunshine than almost any other part of BC, creating prime conditions for outdoor recreation and events. Cycling and hiking trails abound through spectacular parkland, while the many high-calibre ski resorts and golf courses host major ski, snowboard and golf events.
Plentiful sunshine encourages plant life in the rivers and lakes, with over-sized fish the result. It's common to catch trout weighing 10 kg (22 lb) in Okanagan Lake! The weather is so reliably good in the Thompson Okanagan that even theatrical and musical performances are commonly staged out of doors.
Wine festivals occur winter, spring, summer and fall, while most vineyards and orchards welcome visitors for tours, tastings and shopping.
