Kimberley is surrounded by impressive mountain scenery and vast wilderness, with a variety of regional and provincial parks nearby. It has recently become part of the Crown of the Continent Region, a geotourism partnership to sustain geographic character and heritage. It also has a number of impressive local and municipal parks and gardens, including the Kimberley Nature Park, Cominco Gardens and Marysville Falls.

Highlight Provincial Parks in Kimberley

Premier Lake

Premier Lake Provincial Park is a popular recreational area with a scenic campground, beautiful emerald waters, a beach and exceptional trout fishing (with license). Find Premier Lake off of Highway 93/95 just north of Skookumchuk. Turn east at the Provincial Park sign and follow the road 15km/9mi to the lake.  A small road at the entrance to the Premier Lake campground goes into Quartz Lake. Quartz Lake is a day use area and offers good fishing.

Whiteswan Lake

Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park boasts two of the most productive fishing lakes in the region for trophy rainbow trout - Whiteswan Lake and Alces Lake (also known as Moose Lake by the locals). Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park has five campgrounds, with boat launches, hiking trails and wildlife viewing opportunities. Lussier Hot Springs (natural hot springs) can be found along the river at the 17km/10mi marker.  Access Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park Lake off Highway 93/95 east on the Whiteswan Lake Forestry Road.

Wasa Lake Provincial Park is located 35 km/22mi  northeast of Kimberley and is known for being one of the warmest lakes in the Kootenay Rockies. Camping, recreational activities and wheelchair-accessible trails are available. 

St. Mary's

St. Mary's Alpine Provincial Park in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy is a protected, remote and rugged wilderness area of remarkable beauty and will appeal to advanced backcountry hikers, and has no supplies or equipment. Bring your own water as there is no drinking water within the park.

    Appropriate clothing is required at all times due to sudden weather changes. Beware of wildlife as black bear, elk, mule deer, sheep and moose live in the area.
