Orca , Vancouver Island, BC Canada
Orca breaching, Vancouver Island Region
British Columbia is known for its spectacular national and provincial parks and abundant wildlife. Wherever you go in the province you will find majestic mountains, many of them rising over 3,000 m (9,843 ft). Explore rainforests and old-growth forests or discover canyons and hoodoos (ancient, stone-like pillars). Amble along long stretches of pebble and sandy beaches. Hike past roaring rivers or through alpine meadows carpeted with wildflowers to crystal-clear lakes as well as some of Canada's highest waterfalls. Slip into a natural hot springs. Everywhere, view the wildlife: go bird watching, particularly in migratory seasons; watch for whales; spot Grizzly and Black Bears pawing for salmon. Bald Eagles often soar above, while Mountain Sheep, Mountain Goats and Caribou roam the parks.
