Whistler is on the migratory route of many bird species. Catch a glimpse of backward-flying hummingbirds or salmon-loving bald eagles. You may even spot a Steller's jay (official bird of BC), ptarmigan or whiskey jack, birds that inhabit the region year round.
The Whistler Naturalists Club also organizes birding tours. You can book a tour from Whistler to Brackendale - location of the world's highest concentration of bald eagles.
A word or two on your excursion:
- Do not disturb the wildlife
- Please leave the area you visit undisturbed and be sure to carry out your garbage
A word or two on safety:
- Obey posted signs and keep to designated trails
Brackendale
From November through March you can view the world's highest concentration of bald eagles in Brackendale. Watch as the eagles perch on nearby trees waiting to swoop down on the salmon swimming in the Squamish River. Some bus excursions include a narrated walking tour and binoculars.
Brackendale is 45 minutes south of Whistler via Highway 99.
