Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Wine Tours

The Fort Wine Company
The Fort Wine Company, Fort Langley, Dannielle Hayes photo
A Fraser Valley wine tour makes a scenic day trip from Vancouver or surrounding communities. More than a dozen wineries dot this valley landscape, along with berry farms, riding stables and rural roads.

The climate here lends itself to white wines, such as Chardonnay or Germanic white varietals, as well as early-ripening reds, such as Pinot Noir. Fruit wines are also popular. Many of the wineries are small and family-owned, so you may find yourself meeting the vintners during tastings and tours.

Wineries to Visit

Each winery has its own distinctive ambience, surroundings, and of course, wines. Discovering what makes each winery unique is part of the fun of a wine tour. Here are a few ideas to start.

Located in south LangleyDomaine de Chaberton is the oldest winery in the Fraser Valley. They’re known for their signature and award-winning Bacchus white wine and the farm-fresh French cuisine at Bacchus Bistro.

Further north in Fort Langley, the Fort Wine Company creates premium fruit wines from cranberries, blueberries and strawberries – take a tour to learn about the process.

In AbbotsfordLotusland Vineyards makes premium wines using organically grown, hand-harvested Fraser Valley grapes.

Visit Wineries & Vineyards to learn more about wineries in this region.

Where are the Wineries Located?

Wineries are mainly centred around Langley, though they can be found as far west as Delta and as far east as Chilliwack. Most are within an hour’s drive from Vancouver and are easily reached via the network of highways that run through the Fraser Valley.

Self-guided Wine Tours

The farms, vineyards and scenic backroads of the Fraser Valley are great for a day trip or a weekend adventure. Ask local Visitor Centres for winery information and maps, and follow the burgundy and white wine route highway road signs.

Incorporate some other Fraser Valley favourites on your wine route, such as “u-pick” berry farms or historic Fort Langley.

Guided Wine Tours

Have someone else do the driving with a guided wine tour of the Fraser Valley. Most winery tour operators offer half to full day trips, visit four to five wineries, and can pick up from Vancouver or Lower Mainland locations.

Wine tasting, winery tours and a knowledgeable guide are just part of the experience – many also enjoy the pretty Fraser Valley rural landscape, located so close to bustling Vancouver. Choose from pre-planned tour itineraries or work with a tour operator to create a customized tour.

When to Visit

Many wineries are open year-round, seven days a week, but require advance notice for winery tours. Some have seasonal hours of operations or may be closed on certain days of the week. If you’re visiting during the week or in the “off” season, call the wineries and see if they offer tastings and tours to suit your visit.
