Thanks to the clear glacial waters of the Rocky Mountains, the Kootenay Rockies is famed for its breweries. It also boasts some unique regional food experiences.

Farmers' Markets
From June through September fresh produce, local eggs, honey, preserves, baking and flowers are plentiful around the region.
- You'll also find artwork, woodwork, pottery, jewellery and clothing crafted by local artisans, all of which make great gifts and souvenirs.
- Markets are located in Fernie, Invermere, Nelson, New Denver and Revelstoke; look for them in smaller communities as well. Ask local Visitor Centres for time and location information.
Wineries and Breweries
Columbia Gardens Vineyard & Winery
Located in Trail, visit the Kootenays' first commercial-sized vineyard and VQA winery to sample their wonderful versions of chardonnay, gewürztraminer, pinot noir and marechal foch. You'll find the tasting bar open during the summer months.
Columbia Brewery
Located in Creston, Columbia brews the legendary Kokanee Beer. Look out for the famous Sasquatch during your visit; this is its reputed home. Take a free scheduled tour of the brewery during the summer months to learn about its history as well as its beer-making process. Then shake your thirst with a tasting.
The Nelson Brewing Company
This company operates in the same historic downtown building as the original Nelson Brewing & Ice Company, created in 1897. Beers produced by this certified organic microbrewery include Liplock Summer Wheat Ale, Faceplant Winter Ale, Paddywhack India Pale Ale and Nelson After Dark.

Eagle's Eye Restaurant
At 2,346 metres (7,700 feet), Eagle's Eye is Canada's highest dining experience. Located at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, this restaurant features incredible panoramic views and superb cuisine. Eagle's Eye has received numerous accolades, and has been named "Mountain Restaurant of the Year" by The Good Skiing and Snowboarding Guide for six consecutive years (2002 - 2007).
All Seasons Café
This hidden gem serves (as they describe it) "left coast inland cuisine". Located in Nelson, it's nestled in a charming, treed setting that opens to a spectacular mountain view. The restaurant has an award-winning wine list and has received accolades from a number of high-profile publications.
Weezie's Borscht Hut
Castlegar is known for its Doukhobor roots, and this local favourite is a great place to enjoy a bowl of authentic borscht.
The Old Bauernhaus
This restaurant was originally a house built in southern Bavaria about 350 years ago. In 1987, it was shipped in pieces to Kimberley, then reconstructed. The restaurant specializes in authentic Bavarian cuisine.
