Julyfest - Chris Dadson
Julyfest, Chris Dadson
The friendly laid-back city of Kimberley offers a wealth of cultural attractions, locals festivals and events. It's earned its reputation as a city of festivals, most of which are staffed by volunteers and are open to all visitors.

Summer Festivals

  • The Kimberley International Old Time Accordion Championships (KIOTAC) is an annual event that has been held for over thirty-five years, and runs the second week of July. This popular event has won numerous awards and appeals to enthusiasts and the curious.
  • JulyFest is another long-running event that has traditionally been held each year during the third weekend in July. This fun, family celebration includes a parade, various sports tournaments and championships (including Canada's Championship Bocce Tournament),  shopping, and a Saturday night party.
  • Miners' Day (early August) is a celebration of Kimberley's fascinating mining history and heritage. Learn about the history and life as an underground hard rock miner with an Underground Mining Railway tour or a stop at the Underground Interpretive Centre.
  • Marysville Daze runs the first Saturday in June and includes a parade, ball tournament, bocce and more and highlights the best of this Kimberley neighbourhood.
  • Centre 64 features the work of local artisans, along with workshops and classes for both adults and children. In the summer months (July and August), Centre 64 entertains with a musical ‘Summer Theatre' production and an outdoor Vaudeville show. Also, live theatre presentations are showcased through the year. The centre is located at 64 Deer Park Avenue, one block north of the Platzl.
  • Arts on the Edge is held annually during the second weekend in August. Artists and performers from all parts of the Kootenay Rockies region celebrate with a street party, food and wine festivities, art, exhibits.
  • Wind down the summer with Kimberley's Music & Dance Festival held annually every Saturday during the Labour Day weekend. It's a multicultural entertainment celebration featuring artists from all over North America.

Autumn/Winter Festivals

During the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend in October, the grassroots Kootenay Dirtbag Film and Photo Fest is a unique event that's gaining in popularity. The festival features photos, short videos and films from locals and appeals to anyone interested in getting a real feel for the city and its people.

All of Kimberley's festivals are family-friendly but Kimberley Alpine Resort will host 1st Annual Family Festival in February, 2009. Parent and children's activities include races, movies, snow sculpting, ice skating, night skiing and more.
