Merritt hosts a number of festivals throughout the year celebrating the area's western culture and history, love of country music, ranching heritage, artists and artisans, and seasonal events.
Merritt Mountain Music Festival
The Merritt Mountain Music Festival has been a country music lover's dream for more than a decade. Each year 80,000 plus people are drawn to the rolling sun-soaked hills of Merritt for some of the best country music in North America. The largest summertime country music festival on the continent, the Merritt Mountain Music Festival features the biggest names in country music. Downtown Merritt's "Walk of Stars" bears the signatures and handprints of country artists, such as Adam Gregory, Johnny Cash, Chris Cummings, Joanne Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Merle Haggard, Dixie Chicks, and Kenny Rogers.
Rodeos
Rodeos take place in the Nicola Valley throughout the year – not surprising considering the number of ranches in the area. The biggest rodeo weekend, Rodeo Fair Days and the Nicola Valley Pro Rodeo, takes place over the Labor Day weekend. This weekend also features the Nicola Valley Fall Fair. The High School Rodeo, at the end of May, and the Little Britches Rodeo, on the first weekend in June, showcase the ranching skills of Merritt's youth. The Ranch Rodeo in July features the talents of the local ranchers, and the XK Rodeo in September is First Nations focused.
Annual Valley Visual Arts Show and Sale
Set at the Courthouse Gallery (1840 Nicola Ave), the Annual Valley Visual Arts Show and Sale showcases visual arts of the Nicola Valley. Artists and artisans meet at a special reception that kicks off the event.
Merritt Country Christmas
Held in Late November or early December, the Merritt Country Christmas festival is marked by a huge parade and fireworks display. Also, during this festival downtown businesses, local crafters, and artists bring their wares to the Crafter's Mall. The festival closes with an old fashioned barn dance. Stop by the Merritt Visitor Centre for more information about festivals and events in the area.
