In 1862, Billy Barker discovered gold in Williams Creek, leading a rush of fortune seekers from around the world. Over the next eight years, 100,000 people made their way to the goldfields, converging on the bustling boomtown of Barkerville. Today, Barkerville Historic Town is one of BC's most popular attractions. It offers a unique streetscape of over 125 heritage buildings, a bustling Chinatown and incomparable shopping throughout. Filled with Victorian-era merchandise, Barkerville takes visitors back to the gold rush era. Stop by Eldorado Gold Panning and Souvenirs, McPherson's Watchmaker's Shop or Kwong Sang Wing Store for imported Chinese merchandise. Pose in period costume at L. A. Blanc Photographic Gallery, a re-created Victorian studio.
Barkerville Historic Town is located on Highway 26, a one-hour drive east from Quesnel.
