A-Team, filming in Vancouver British Columbia is abuzz with film production year round. However, late-fall and winter usually see a slight decline in filming. Nevertheless, here are some highlights of films currently being shot in British Columbia, upcoming productions, and other industry news:

The A-Team and 2012

Formerly in pre-production in Vancouver, The A-Team (2010), starring Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, and Jessica Biel is now filming in several British Columbia locations, including Ashcroft, Cache Creek, and Kamloops. Too bad filming requires such tight schedules, as cast and crew could have taken advantage of the Thompson Okanagan’s action-packed outdoors.

Ashcroft and Cache Creek and the surrounding Gold Country area are the only places in BC where visitors can participate in geocaching, a sport involving GPS locations, letterboxing, and orienteering. The grassland and alpine terrain of Kamloops ensures a golfing challenge at any one of 13 local courses. Kamloop’s Tobiano Golf Course was voted Canada’s best new course in 2008 by Golf Digest and ScoreGolf Magazine.

, Cache Creek, and Kamloops were also served as locales for Roland Emmerich’s 2012 (2009), starring John Cusack and Woody Harrelson.

Not Just Vancouver: Nelson

Remember Roxanne (1987), starring Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah? It was shot in Nelson, an eclectic artistic town in the Kootenay Rockies region. Of the more than 350 heritage buildings in Nelson, those located in the downtown core such as the Fire Hall (constructed in 1894), are prominently featured in the film. As is Baker Street, which having undergone extensive restoration is now home to antique and collectible shops, art galleries, and funky cafes. With information provided by the Nelson Visitor Centre, take a self-guided tour of town and check out some Roxanne locales.
