Set of Percy Jackson & the Olympians, Vancouver - H. Cuny photoBritish Columbia is abuzz with film production year round. Here are some highlights of films currently being shot in British Columbia, upcoming productions, and other industry news:

Tron 2.0, Marmaduke, and More

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief (2010), starring Pierce Brosnan and Uma Thurman is currently shooting at several locations around Vancouver.

Marmaduke (2012), a family-friendly screen adaptation of Brad Anderson’s famous comic-strip, begins shooting in Vancouver in July.

Tron 2.0 (2011), the next chapter to Disney’s 1982 cult classic Tron is currently filming at an undisclosed studio location in Vancouver, wrapping up in mid-July.

Flicka 2 (2010), starring country music star Clint Black, is filming in Kamloops, the Thompson-Okanagan region's second largest city.

Twilight Tours and Twilight Saga: Eclipse

In mid-August filming is scheduled to begin for Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), the third film in the Twilight series.

Twilight Set Tours of Vancouver
While shooting of Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) ended in May Twilight-mania continues. Twilight Set Tours of Vancouver is a fan-created guided tour that takes devoted fans to specific set locations used in the filming of New Moon, as well as the favourite local haunts of Twilight stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. The tour includes stops at Yaletown and Granville Island Market (a popular indoor market open year-round and augmented seasonally with the arrival of local farmers and their produce) in Vancouver, as well as locations in Burnaby and New Westminster. In the fall, Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) locations will be added to the tour.

Pixar: Coming Soon to BC

In addition to British Columbia’s appealing live-action landscape, the province’s creative talent also attracts animated productions. Pixar Animation, the multi-Academy Award winning computer animation studio, and creators of Wall E (2008), Ratatouille (2007), and Finding Nemo (2003), is scheduled to open a Vancouver studio in fall 2009. The Vancouver studio will produce computer generated short animations, like those often used by Pixar in the past as springboards for future full-length features.

Not Just Vancouver: Kamloops

Desert Country in Kamloops - Tourism BCThe vast and varied terrain of Kamloops – the very geography that makes it at once ideal for challenging golf courses and exhilarating downhill mountain-biking trials – provides the perfect location to double as somewhere else. For An Unfinished Life(2005), Kamloops doubled as Wyoming, for The Pledge (2001), Nevada, and for Snow Walker (2003), the northern tundra. Kamloops, and the surrounding deserts, hoodoos (tall and thin spires of rock), box canyons, grasslands, tundra, snow-capped mountains, rugged evergreen valleys, historical buildings, and small towns of the Thompson Okanagan are a one-stop shop for film location scouts. Flicka 2, with country music singer, Clint Black is currently filming in Kamloops.
