Big White Ski Resort Things To Do
|
Big White Ski Resort caters to families. While downhill skiing and snowboarding are the main focus, off-slope and après-ski activities are clearly geared to families. Singles and young couples are welcome, and there's plenty for them to do, but the emphasis on families obviously influences the array of activities and amenities at the resort.
Skiing and Snowboarding Downhillers and snowboarders tackle 2765ac/1119ha of terrain geared to challenge skills from bunny hill to double black diamond powder bowl. Boarders step it up a notch on the half-pipe, rails and jumps of the Telus Park. Disabled skiers hit the slopes with the help of the Powder Hounds adaptive ski program.
Ski and Snowboard School Sharpen skills or learn new ones at the Ski and Snowboard School with group and individual coaching for downhillers, boarders and Nordic skiers. The Big White Ski and Snowboard School offers First Tracks, two-hour, half-day and full-day programs as well as Ladies Day, Mom or Dad and Me family sessions, 50 Plus and teen freestyle coaching.
Big White Kids Centre Big White's Kids Centre offers day care for little ones from 18 months to four years old. Parents can fully enjoy their day on the slopes knowing that their kids are well cared for and having fun. Optional ski lessons can be included in the program. Older kids (4 to 12) graduate to the Kids Centre for half- or full-day programs including lessons geared to their individual skill levels.
Winter Activities Après-ski doesn't have to mean abandoning the action (although chilling out in a hot tub or sipping an Okanagan vintage in front of a roaring fire are definite possibilities). Families make memories with countless winter activities, including horse-drawn sleigh rides, skating, tubing, mushing a dog sled team, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, snowbiking, snow fort building and snowman making.
Family Entertainment Think cruise ship on snow with daily live entertainment – Après-Ski with Jon Bos in the Happy Valley Day Lodge, bingo night, Wii night, carnival night, skating parties, arts and crafts in the Kids Centre, trivia night and weekly fireworks.
Shopping Shopping at Big White is limited with best bets including Big White Kids (kids wear), The Village Rider (for boarders), and Ski Dazzle (for skiers), Dizzies (for rental gear) in the Village Centre Mall. For gifts, check out Everything Okanagan and Shop the Valley in the Trapper's Crossing plaza as well as Down Under in the Village Centre Mall.
Nightlife Big White caters to families, but over 800 staff (mostly young and mostly Aussie) ensure there's plenty of action in the bars 'til well into the wee hours. Raakel's, which also hosts a popular snow patio on sunny afternoons, has been rated #1 Ski Bar by Ski Canada Magazine. Good Ski & Snowboard Magazine says Snowshoe Sam's Pub (home of the fiery Gun Barrel Coffee) is tops. For more information on things to do at Big White, head to the Activities Desk at the Village Centre Mall.
