There is an abundance of spectacular viewpoints in the Kootenay Rockies. They include:

Ootischenia Lookout Rest Area:

Just eight km (5 mi) southeast of Castlegar is a serene spot from which to view the Kootenay River flowing into the Columbia River.

Saddle Mountain Lookout Trail:

This three-hour hike to takes you to the 2,330-m (7,644-ft) summit of Saddle Mountain and its spectacular views of Arrow Lakes and Nakusp. The 16-km (10-mi) drive to the trailhead begins from Arrow Park.

Slocan Lake Rest Area/Viewpoint:

You'll find some of the region's most spectacular views on this fenced path around a 120-m (394-ft) cliff. The area is located 10.5 km (6.5 mi) south of New Denver.

Kootenay Valley Viewpoint (Kootenay National Park):

From this glorious valley vista you'll take in the Mitchell and Vermillion Mountain Ranges. The viewpoint is located 15 km (9 mi) from West Gate.

Spiral Tunnel Viewpoint (Yoho National Park):

Some 36.5 km (23 mi) beyond West Gate, see the famous Spiral Tunnels, an underground passage built in 1909 by the railway to avoid the steep descent on the treacherous "Big Hill."

Takakkaw Falls and Twin Falls (Yoho National Park):

Don't miss one of BC's highest waterfalls, the spectacular Takakkaw Falls, spilling 384 m (1,260 ft) from a high valley into a deeper one. You can also follow Yoho Valley Trail for eight km (5 mi) at the north end of the parking area to the dramatic 177-m (581-ft) Twin Falls.

Olsen Rest Stop:

Gaze across the Kootenay Rockies from this popular viewing point found along Highway 3, just 16 km (10 mi) east of Fernie.
