Sports are an important part of day-to-day life in Victoria. While the locals have a particular passion for golf and water sports, a mild climate means all manner of sports are played here year-round. This climate is one reason professional athletes from around the world train in Victoria, which also boasts first-class coaching and facilities.

Victoria Grizzlies

Victoria's hometown hockey heroes are the Victoria Grizzlies, who play in the BC Hockey League, a division of the Canadian Junior "A" Hockey League. NCAA scouts routinely travel through Victoria and many fans follow the team to every game.

Their home arena is Bear Mountain Arena, and the season for Junior "A" runs September until March.

Victoria Shamrocks

The Victoria Shamrocks are Victoria's local lacrosse heroes. A member of the non-professional Western Lacrosse Association, the team competes with six others throughout the province. Known as "the fastest sport on two feet," lacrosse is one of Canada's national sports. It originated from an Aboriginal war game and takes a tremendous amount of physical stamina to play.

Their home arena is the Bear Mountain Arena, and the season runs May until July.

Victoria Salmon Kings

The Victoria Salmon Kings play in the ECHL, which is a development league for both the National and American Hockey Leagues. They play 72 games per year against primarily West Coast opponents.

Their home arena is the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre and the season runs October until April.
