Gathering and growing food has been a celebrated way of life since ancient times in the Fraser Valley – the most prolific farming area in the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region.

Learn more about farm life in the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region by clicking on Field Reporter Simon's video below.

This is serious berry country - 90% of Canada's blueberries are grown here, and, if you time it right, you can even watch the mesmerizing cranberry harvest - fields are flooded, beaten, then boomed.

Many farms offer seasonal tours with more than 20 farmers' markets peppered throughout the region featuring the delectable bounty from these farms, together with specialty foods and other artisan products.

Popular Farms and Orchards include:

U-pick Farms

You'll find lots of U-pick farms to choose from in Richmond and the Fraser Valley
  • Purchase pre-picked baskets of strawberries, raspberries or blueberries or head out to the field and pick your own
  • Other U-pick fruits and vegetables include plums, corn, pumpkins and apples.

Birchwood Dairy and Farm Market

Tour this family-owned farm in Abbotsford, then visit the market for some of the dairy products made on-site, including feta cheese, ice cream and frozen yogurt.

UBC Dairy Education and Research Centre

Learn about BC’s dairy farming history, production methods, reproductive technology, and animal handling at the University of British Columbia’s research farm in Agassiz. Don’t miss the milking parlour.

Kilby Historic Site

The Kilby Historic Site is the only surviving edifice in what was once the thriving community of Harrison Mills. Step back in time with costumed interpreters, as you are guided through the 1906 General Store Museum once owned by the Kilby family. On the farm are Jersey cows and calves, chickens, piglets, sheep, lambs, goat, rabbits, and turkeys. Children will find a terrific tree fort, teeter-totter and a variety of old fashioned games in the Orchard Playground.

Maplewood Farm

Maplewood is a 2.5ha park-farm in North Vancouver. Specializing in the display of domestic farm animals and birds, the farm offers areas where visitors can meet the animals: "Rabbitat" where the bunnies reside; "Goathill" where the goat kids and their moms play; and the "Duck Yard" where the ducks and geese hang out. A milking demonstration is held daily, featuring the Jersey cow, Daisy. Pony Rides are available seasonally.
