This region is blessed with an ideal growing climate - endless sunny days and dry heat. Relish the glorious results at the region's many farmers' markets. Choose from ripe, lusciously sweet fruits, newly picked vegetables, delectable, artisan foods as well as choice, free-range eggs and tasty, grass-fed meats.

Communities throughout the region host markets spring through fall, usually on Saturdays. Check with local tourist offices as this does vary from town to town.

Some of the major farmers' markets include:

Pioneer Country Market

Discover an extraordinary selection of premium preserves made from fruits and vegetables grown and packed onsite at this fifth-generation, family-run Kelowna market.

  • Don't miss the renowned Okanagan Wine Jellies, made with 100-percent BC wine

  • Look for honey, beeswax candles and crafts all made in the area by resident artisans. Follow with a stroll through the onsite museum.

Gatzke's Farm Market

Gatzke's scenic setting near Oyama overlooks Wood and Kalamalka Lakes. This third-generation, family-run business boasts over 50 varieties of fruit trees.

  • Buy freshly plucked, ripe produce in the market, or pick your own - an Okanagan rite of passage. Relax and  savour delicious, homemade foods and preserves at the market cafe

  • Be sure to tour the orchard - just follow the Peach Jungle walking path.

Kelowna Farmers' and Crafters' Market

You'll be irresistibly tempted at this bustling Kelowna market: organic produce; homemade preserves; just-baked breads and pastries; mouthwatering ethnic foods; handcrafted arts; natural body products; potted plants and colourful flowers.

  • Spend the afternoon: Treat yourself to lunch and enjoy the live entertainment

  • Special events happen spring through fall - from April's Easter celebration to fall's pumpkin festival.

Fruit stands

In the mood for a luscious peach or impossibly sweet cherries? Simply stop at one of the many roadside fruit stands of the Okanagan and Similkameen valleys.

For the biggest selection, head to Keremeos, the "Fruit Stand Capital of Canada." A huge variety of fruits and vegetables are grown in area fields and orchards with fruit stands lining roads going into and out of town
