The Fraser Valley is the largest agricultural region in British Columbia. In 1991, the Domaine de Chaberton winery opened just south of Langley and established the Fraser Valley as a credible wine-growing region.

What makes the Fraser Valley special for wine-making?

This expansive and fertile land is home to more than 10 wineries covering approximately 70 acres of vineyards. While there is a large amount of precipitation in the spring, winter and fall, the region is very dry in the summer months. The temperate climate is excellent for grapes to ripen early.

The predominant varieties of grapes grown in this region are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Germanic white varietals.

Wineries are close to downtown Vancouver

Just one hour's drive east of Vancouver you'll discover more than ten wineries in the valley, often family-owned and managed with hands-on attention. Wineries are scattered throughout the area, with the greatest concentration around Langley and Fort Langley.

To reach them, just follow the burgundy-and-white Wine Route signs and map boards at rest stops on or near Hwy 1.

Dining opportunities abound en route.
Pick up some boutique picnic fixings for a casual lunch, or enjoy a gourmet meal featuring fresh local ingredients paired with a vineyard's wines.

Wine tours/tasting "high season"

Some of the wineries are open for tours and tastings year round, but most welcome guests from April through October. Call the vineyard first before showing up as times and days may change.

Some of the wineries and vineyards of note in the Vancouver, Coast & Mountains region include:

Domaine de Chaberton

The first winery established in the Fraser Valley is already one of the largest estate wineries in BC. It specializes in cool-climate "vitis Vinifera" grapes, producing over 50,000 cases of white wine per year.

In 2007, Domaine de Chaberton was honoured with 23 awards at nine internationally renowned wine competitions. Included in this count were gold medals for its 2006 Canoe Cove Chardonnay, 2003 Canoe Cove Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2003 Canoe Cove Shiraz.

Book a table overlooking the magnificent vineyard and indulge in authentic French bistro cooking at the winery's Zagat-rated Bacchus Bistro.

Lotusland Vineyards

This winery utilizes only organically grown, Fraser Valley fruit in an exceptional, limited release wine. All Lotusland vintages are made in small batches and are low in sulfites. Enjoy the breathtaking view when you tour this spectacular vineyard.

Township 7 Winery and Vineyard

Noted for their complexity, flavour and balance, these award-winning vintages have created a loyal following for this family-owned and operated winery.

  • The winery's small lots of high-quality wines are produced from grapes grown in its Langley vineyard and in the Okanagan.

  • The Township 7 Wine Shop is housed in a rambling building, whose exterior resembles the many riding stables in the neighborhood. The bright, spacious tasting room highlights the work of local artists.
