Many of the northern communities have one or more theatre group. Prince George has an active community theatre and its own professional theatre company, Theatre North West. The company stages approximately four plays each year, many by Canadian playwrights.

Fort St. John's Stage North Theatre Society is an excellent theatre company that stages three or four shows per year, including annual dinner theatre evenings hosted by its improvisational troupe, Spontaneous Combustion. The community is also home to the Fort St. John Players - a unique group of thespians made up of developmentally challenged adults - performing original short plays at various local venues.
