Whistler's pioneer past.

Whistler Village
Tourism Whistler photo
Before the world-famous slopes and resort, Whistler Valley was settled by pioneers. In the early 1900s the region was a base for loggers and miners. They started calling the area "Whistler" in homage to the shrill whistle sound made by the Western Hoary Marmots living among the rocks. The Whistler Museum offers visitors a chance to experience Whistler's pioneer era as well as the region's natural history.

Whistler Museum

The Whistler Museum & Archives was created in 1986 to collect, preserve, document and interpret mountain life. The museum brings Whistler's history into focus through engaging exhibits, programs, presentations and vintage collections.

You can also trace Whistler's resort development through memorabilia from the 1960s onwards.
