A great many artists call Victoria home because it offers a rare combination of natural beauty and urban sophistication. If you’re an art lover, you’ll appreciate the density of centrally located galleries; the variety of mediums on display (painting, sculpture, glasswork, First Nations carvings, and more); the opportunity to interact with artists at work in their studios; and the presence of BC’s largest public art gallery.

Art Gallery of Greater Victoria

The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria houses BC's largest public art collection, with an emphasis on Canadian and Japanese art. It also includes many works from other parts of the world.

The gallery features an extensive, permanent exhibit of the work of Emily Carr, the most important BC artist of her generation

Winchester Gallery

The Winchester Gallery opened its doors in 1974 and has been dealing in original Canadian fine art ever since. Its impressive roster of artists includes the Group of Seven, Goodridge Roberts, Jack Shadbolt, Joseph Plaskett and Molly Lamb Bobak.

Winchester Gallery has two locations: the main gallery in Oak Bay and the downtown gallery on Broad Street.

Fran Willis Gallery

On the second floor of an historic building in Victoria's Old Town, Fran Willis Gallery operates in what many consider to be the best art exhibition space in the city. Three high, arched windows that overlook the waterway ensure every inch of the 325-sq m (3,500-sq ft) space fills with light.

The oldest and largest of Victoria's contemporary art galleries, Fran Willis Gallery represents both emerging and established Western Canadian artists.
