Summertime, and the Sporting is Easy

Mount Washington makes a terrific summer destination. A number of exceptional trails for hikers of all ability track across the alpine terrain. Experienced hikers who climb a rugged route to the 1,588-m (5,210-ft) summit are rewarded by astonishing, panoramic views of Strathcona Provincial Park, the Comox Glacier, Mount Arrowsmith, the Strait of Georgia and Mount Baker in Washington State. The peak is also easily accessible via a soaring chairlift ride. Learn about the unique flora and fauna of the “mile-high” alpine while trekking along summit trails.

The towering playground is also one of the island’s top spots for mountain biking. Riders enjoy access to 16 classic runs over 35 km (22 mi) of varied terrain and 502 m (1,650 ft) of sheer, exhilarating vertical.

The active headquarters for much other spring-to-fall activity, Mount Washington offers guided horseback trail riding, fly-fishing trips and camping. While some restaurants and accommodations in the resort’s pedestrian village are open year-round, most outdoor enthusiasts make day trips to the mountain.
